Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah warned of possible flooding in the Indus River on Tuesday and Wednesday night. He shared concerns after reviewing updated water flow data from major barrages. The CM instructed authorities to closely monitor embankments and canal systems. He also ordered all relevant departments to stay alert and ready. This warning comes as rainfall continues in upper regions of the country.
Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro briefed the chief minister on the situation. He reported that Guddu Barrage recorded an inflow of 383,000 cusecs and an outflow of 350,000 cusecs. Sukkur Barrage showed inflow at 313,000 and outflow at 259,000 cusecs. Kotri Barrage registered 264,000 cusecs incoming and 233,000 outgoing. According to the minister, barrages are stable but conditions could change quickly.
In response, Murad Ali Shah ordered emergency preparedness across river areas. He directed setup of over 500 camps along Indus River banks. These camps will help monitor water levels and assist in evacuation if needed. Local officials and rescue teams are now on high alert. Equipment and medical teams are being placed in at-risk zones.
The CM also urged local residents to stay informed and follow safety guidelines. He said the government will protect lives and property. People near riverbanks are advised to prepare for possible relocation. Public announcements will update citizens as needed. Coordination between departments is being ensured at all levels.
Earlier, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) also warned of severe flood risk. With ongoing monsoon rains and increased upstream water flow, the threat is serious. The next 48 hours are especially critical for low-lying areas. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and may take more action if needed.
